Choose the Right Holiday Week
Thanksgiving
The flexible one. It sits before the late-December rush, so there is more yacht choice, routes are easier to shape, and the occasional shorter charter is still possible. Best for families who want a warm holiday on the water without peak-week constraints.
Christmas
The family one. Demand is high and the good boats confirm early, but there is usually still real choice if you move by early fall. Best for multi-generation groups who want a private Christmas with their own chef and crew.
New Year
The hard one. This is the tightest week of the Bahamas season: premium rates, strict seven-night blocks, and the top yachts go first. When we checked the fleet calendars in late August, most of the large motor yachts already had New Year booked. Book early, or ask us to watch for cancellations.
Holiday Booking Rules to Know
- Book 12 months out for Christmas and New Year. The best boats confirm by early fall.
- Expect seven-night blocks. New Year charters in the Bahamas typically run December 28 to January 4, and most yachts protect that full week.
- Confirm the holiday rate up front. Some yachts charge a premium for the holiday weeks, others publish fixed holiday pricing.
- Start from the yacht calendar, not the route. Over the holidays, which boats are actually free matters more than a perfect itinerary. The route adapts; the calendar does not.
- Watch the back-to-back trap. A yacht with a Christmas charter ending on the 26th often cannot reposition for your preferred New Year start.
Best Bahamas Areas for Holiday Charters
Exumas: our first choice for most holiday charters. Short hops, calm shallow water, private beaches and sandbars, Thunderball Grotto, and Staniel Cay, with easy starts from Nassau. Nothing about the route fights the season.
Abacos: island towns, marinas, and beach bars with a more social feel. It makes sense when the yacht is already positioned there.
Bimini or South Florida starts: only when the crossing is part of the adventure and your group has weather flexibility. For Christmas and New Year, we prefer boarding in the Bahamas.

Bahamas Holiday Charter FAQ
How early should I book a Bahamas holiday yacht charter?
Twelve months ahead is the right target for Christmas and New Year, and earlier is better for large groups or fixed dates. Thanksgiving is more forgiving, but the well-known boats still go early.
Are Christmas and New Year rates higher?
Usually, yes. Some yachts charge a holiday premium, some publish fixed holiday rates, and some decide case by case. We confirm the exact terms with the yacht manager before you commit to anything.
Can we charter for less than seven nights?
Rarely over the holidays. Most yachts protect full seven-night blocks around Christmas and New Year. Thanksgiving is the most likely week for a shorter trip.
Is Thanksgiving easier to book than Christmas or New Year?
Yes. It is still a holiday week, but it sits before the late-December rush, so there is more choice and more route flexibility for the same boat.
Is New Year better in the Bahamas or St. Barts?
Choose the Bahamas for privacy, beaches, shallow water, and a family celebration on your own terms. Choose St. Barts if the main goal is the high-energy party and social scene. The Bahamas also books out later and costs less for a comparable yacht.
