Sailing is the national sport of the Bahamas. Every April, handbuilt wooden sloops race in George Town’s Family Island Regatta, and the same waters that made this country a nation of sailors are what make it a serious charter destination: steady easterly trades and a 120-mile island chain whose lee side gives you real wind on flat, sheltered water.
A crewed sailing yacht is the slow-travel way to do the Exumas. Sails up between anchorages, a captain who reads the water by its color, and evenings on the hook where the only light is the boat’s and the stars.
