Offered by DMA Yachting, the majestic charter yacht PENNY JO is a 45 ft sailing catamaran. The main attractions of PENNY JO are her impeccable styling and culinary experience. PENNY JO spends the summer and winter season in the Bahamas. She was completed by the renowned boatbuilder Bali Catamarans in 2021. The ingenious yacht layout features 3 cozy cabins and comfortably accommodates a group of 6 guests.
PENNY JO is classified primarily as a sailing catamaran. The the heart of the yacht is the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. The aft deck features a variety of seating areas and that's where the guests spend most of their time. The tastefully decorated cabins offer designer mattrace beds and feature ensuite bathrooms. The cabins offer unbeatable views in the morning and are located just below deck. Multiple portholes add to the feeling of connection with the discovered environment.
The sailboat features 2 X 57HP Yanmar 9Kvw Onan Generator engines and a generator.
Accommodation
3 queen berth guest cabins each with a private en-suite electric head, stall shower and sink/vanity. All heads have dry stall showers.All cabins have individually contract air-conditioning for each cabins comfort.
Top desk fly-bridge with lounging, dining, and seating with a 360-degree view.
Forward cockpit and solid sun deck and dining area.
Aft cockpit with seating and dining accommodations.
Main deck has a bright and airy main salon (fully air-conditioned) as the galley direct access to the forward cockpit lounge area.
In tru Bali catamaran style, the salon back wall lifts and side windows slide forward to open up the entire space for an alfresco dining experience and panoramic views.

We understand that our guests like to stay connected to family and friends, Penny Jo is equipped with Starlink satellite-based internet for texting, emails and wifi calling (not included is social media, streaming or video services like Facetime, etc which are high data usage services). Therefore, even if cell service is out of range, usually connections can be made via the boat Starlink wifi to make a wifi call or text.
Crew Information
Captain: Matt Dana
Captain Matt is a USCG licensed Captain with over two decades of professional experience on sailing and motor yachts up to 114ft. on the Atlantic & Pacific, throughout the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean Sea.
He has sailed over 70,000 nautical miles, crossed the Atlantic twice, raced in over 25 regattas and lived aboard his yachts in the US Virgin Islands since 2003.
Originally from Massachusetts, Matt’s family traces their lineage back to the Mayflower and has strong generational maritime ties in New England.
He grew up spending summers on Cape Cod, where he learned to sail from a young age aboard his family’s boats.
In his early years in the Virgin Islands, Matt broadened his nautical knowledge base by working in a shipyard, and subsequently a sail-loft.
Matt has lived in and around National Parks most of his life, has a background in wilderness search & rescue and emergency medicine, worked as a ski instructor at Vail Resorts, and (prior to his segue into yachting) excelled in fine dining service which culminated at a Michelin rated establishment.
He attended university with a focus in Japanese ceramics and bronze casting and holds a black belt in traditional Tae Kwon-Do.
Chef Tmana is a talented professional chef who originally hails from the coast of Maine where her family operates a thriving New England seafood catering business.
She draws diverse culinary inspiration from her travels abroad in Europe, the Bahamas and Caribbean, not to mention her New England roots.
Tmana truly enjoys providing exceptional and inventive cuisine to all who find a seat at her table and has a penchant for creating pastries, desserts and baked goods.
An accomplished sailor in her own right, Tmana has sailed over 5,000 nautical miles including several offshore multi-day passages.
Matt & Tmana were married in the Virgin Islands on their adopted island home of St. John in 2015.
They honeymooned by sailing from Florida to the Virgin Islands on a 6 month cruise through the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the Spanish Virgin Islands.
Matt and Tmana have been running term charters in the USVI and Bahamas for 7 years on catamarans from 45 up to 70ft.
Together, Matt & Tmana have sailed thousands of miles and genuinely love creating memorable experiences for their guests through their shared passions for nature, yachting, travel, and cuisine.

It was an amazing week spent exploring the pristine waters and secluded coves of the Island of St John. What made this trip truly exceptional was our Captain, Matt Dana and his wife Tmana, who acted as Chef and First mate. Having previously sailed bareboat, we did have concerns about having a crew. However, we understood that a catamaran of this size required true professionals. Matt and Tmana exceeded all of our expectations.<br /> <br /> Matt and Tmana were both knowledgeable and passionate about their jobs and it showed in everything they did. They were attentive to all our needs but not overbearing. They were respectful of our privacy and knew when to engage and when to stay in the background.<br /> Matt chose an itinerary for us based on our preference sheet and he was spot on. We spent our days relaxing in quiet coves, snorkeling and enjoying the clear, blue waters while Tmana spoiled us with her excellent culinary skills at breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour snack. The dining experience Tmana delivered exceeded most fine dining restaurants. The evenings were spent enjoying wonderful dinners and drinks followed by board games, which Matt and Tmana occasionally joined in on.<br /> <br /> Matt accompanied us on our snorkel adventures and showed his knowledge of the marine life by pointing out all the sights along the way. He was always concerned for our safety but let us explore at our own pace.<br /> <br /> There were days when the winds cooperated and we went sailing. Not from one destination to the next but true “let’s take advantage of these winds” sailing. These were exceptional experiences encompassing both fun and learning from true experts. Tmana emerged from the galley with her first mate hat on and showed her skill at operating the jib, sail and all the controls of this large vessel.<br /> <br /> This trip was in our top 5 best vacations ever because of these 2 amazing people. Our vacation group was my husband, two sons and they each brought a friend. Our boys are 19 and 21. We sailed the USVI side and Matt knew all the best spots to visit! We snorkeled at different spots each day which was amazing to see different creatures and fish at each spot! Matt was always accommodating to our crew and ready to please our group in any adventures we wanted. Matt took us on an incredibly beautiful hike to see the Danish ruins, pulled the boys behind the tender with a tube, fished, played games, sailed, swam with turtles. We even got Tmana away from the kitchen a few times to snorkel! Tmana was usually busy in the kitchen cooking her amazing dishes and desserts! We went out to dinner a few nights and they joined us. Bart spent times in his childhood sailing small catamarans in the Knysna Bay area with family. This early exposure formed a lifelong love of being on the sea and of sailing. <br /> <br /> Having always been around boats when he was younger, he decided to change up his lifestyle after a bout as a quarry manager for 8+ years after high school. He did his sailing YachtMasters license in his homeland back in 2019. Upon completion, he has served on various large yachts in different locations, including the Bahamas and the East Coast of the US. Easy going and always up for a chat, he loves sharing experiences and is always happy to talk sailing and boats. As an ex- Skydiving instructor and keen scuba diver, you are sure to hear some exciting stories. Bart believes that safety is always the primary focus when preforming his captain duties, and that having respect for the environment will always provide for an optimal, fun-filled trip. Bart can’t wait to experience more trips throughout The Bahamas with new faces in sunny, favourite places. <br /> <br /> Chef Katie<br /> Penny Jo welcomes Katie, a Canadian chef who comes from a university town an hour west of Toronto, Ontario. Her love for food and cooking hatched from a young age. Her Nan (also Katie) shared her wealth of knowledge and family recipes from the time she could walk and hold a wooden spoon. Many summer days were spent canning jams, jellies and preserves, baking fresh pies and hosting family gatherings where our efforts could be enjoyed by all. <br /> <br /> Throughout high school, Katie worked part time in the hospitality industry. Serving in a local banquet hall, as well as several local fine dining kitchens. Once Katie finished high school, there was only one real path which all of her friends and family knew was before her; Chef school. Katie attended a private French culinary institute in Canada, Stratford Chef’s School. <br /> <br /> Upon graduation, Katie worked several private chef gigs throughout North America. This gave her off seasons in between her contracts to go and travel, which is a major hobby and love of hers. She took her time to explored Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and Central America solo and with friends. This broadened her scope in cooking, giving her new flavours and ingredients to unwrap and understand. <br /> <br /> Once the travelling itch was satisfied, Katie began to explore new avenues to merge her existing career with other hobbies and passions like travel and scuba diving. This is where interest and recommendations came for the yachting industry. She travelled to South Africa to complete her yachting qualifications in 2021, where she met Captain Bart in Cape Town through the local yachting community. Our first Captain and Chef couple’s job came quickly upon completion of my STCW yachting course. We began our journey together on an 80” Motor Yacht in the jewel of the Caribbean, The Bahamas.
