Crew
Captain: Jack Karger
Leading the company, Captain Jack is a certified sailing instructor for the American Sailing Association, and was named the 2022 ASA Instructor of the Year. With around 100,000 nautical miles under his belt, 5 ocean crossings, international racing and his RYA Yachtmaster, he brings extensive experience from working as a captain and instructor around the world.
Jack's sailing career began when he crossed the Atlantic aboard the original La Vagabonde monohull with his cousin Riley and Elayna, who had just launched the now ultra-popular YouTube channel 'Sailing La Vagabonde'. Jack pursued professional certifications, completing his Yachtmaster qualifications in England and working as a skipper for a major flotilla company before transitioning to instruction, where he found his calling.
After gaining experience in the charter industry across multiple continents, Jack founded Vagabonde Adventures. His teaching philosophy centers on maximizing hands-on experience for his students and guests. Jack is passionate about coaching sailors of all levels and consistently works to extract the best performance from both crew and vessel.
Whether sailing across Atlantic passage or leading snorkeling excursions, Jack combines technical expertise with an enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge. His background, from first getting on the helm in his 20s to now becoming an award-winning sailing instructor, gives him a unique perspective on helping others discover their own sailing journey.
Along with Jack we have an amazing group of professional captains you may be lucky enough to sail with.

Reviews
Both being Croatian, they were full of local insider knowledge that made the trip extra special. All the laughs with the new friends we made was priceless. Highly recommend sailing with VA! Cant wait to do it again! ⛵️✨
Both of them are passionate in what they do, knowledgeable and patient. They were also encouraging and understanding, always mindful to ensure that both of us work as a team and neither of us feel excluded
We had a lot of fun learning and enjoying the beauty of the sea and islands together. Thank you for the experience.
Jack was amazing with our whole family—patient, kind, and a fantastic teacher. He not only made sailing fun, but also made sure to share as much knowledge as we could absorb throughout the week. He encouraged the kids to snorkel, dive, and enjoy every part of the adventure—not just the sailing—which made the trip even more memorable. He met everyone at their own level, included the kids in everything, and helped build their confidence with such ease.
Daryl not only made the most delicious meals all week, but she also went out of her way to accommodate my food intolerances with such kindness and care. She always found great options that worked for everyone, and even came up with fun cooking activities to keep the kids entertained during the longer stretches on the water.
By the end of the week, our kids were asking if we could move to the ocean and live on a boat—and honestly, we understood the feeling! They made the days fly by, and we made memories we’ll hold onto forever.
We would 100% recommend Vagabonde Adventures to anyone looking to learn to sail, connect as a family, and enjoy an unforgettable experience on the water. Truly a 10/10 trip!
Vagabonde Adventures attracts incredible people and creates unforgettable sailing experiences. My wife and did their flotilla in Greece with some friends, and it was, hands down, one of the best trips we’ve ever taken. We are beyond grateful to the entire Vagabonde team — thank you for exceeding every expectation!
This was our first flotilla, and we joined as a bareboat. With the expert coaching from the Vagabonde team, I had the chance to level up as a skipper, gaining confidence and sharpening my sailing skills. My wife and friends also grew tremendously in their abilities — all while having a total blast exploring the stunning Greek islands.
Throughout the week, we sailed to charming towns, remote coves, local tavernas, and hidden gems that only seasoned sailors seem to know (some of their amazing Captains are Greek, which was awesome).
We connected with amazing people from the other boats in the flotilla which made the experience even more memorable.
I did my first sailing lesson with Jack in 2020.
In 2023, I earned my ASA certifications with Vagabonde Adventures in the Bahamas over the course of two weeks — one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I came away more confident, capable sailor, skipper, and teammate. And had fun doing it. All of oceans now feel like they’re open to us.
The entire Vagabonde team (especially Jack and Eta :-) are not only expert sailing instructors, they’re also inspiring, kind, and downright awesome human beings. Their passion for sailing and the sea is magnetic. Anyone who’s sailed with them knows the magic they bring. Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned sailor, they make sailing fun, approachable, and empowering.
When we weren’t sailing, we were swimming, snorkeling, exploring, or relaxing on the nets, watching sunsets and stargazing under clear skies or exploring charming ancient island villages, dining on local cuisine.
If you’re looking to improve your sailing skills or just enjoy an epic adventure on the water, book with Vagabonde Adventures. You’ll walk away with lifelong skills, new friends, and incredible memories.
All the stars. So grateful. Absolutely recommend!
We had an absolutely incredible week with Vagabonde Adventures. Our amazing crew — Mackensie and Eta (and Jack) — went above and beyond to make the trip unforgettable. The food and drinks exceeded every expectation, but it was the crew’s friendliness and genuine hospitality that truly set this experience apart. We can’t wait for our next adventure with Vagabonde Adventures — this definitely won’t be our last!
